COLONIC FAQs:
How do I prepare for a colon hydrotherapy appointment?
We recommend hydrating well with electrolytes or minerals the days leading up to your appointment. Consuming hydrating foods such as fruits, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, soups, etc are also great ways to increase hydration. At the last 2 hours before your appointment it is important to be fasted and limit liquid intake to avoid a full bladder early on during you colon cleanse. Make sure to ask any questions or address any concerns with your practioner prior to starting your session. This allows for you to be at ease and informed prior to the start.
What does the after-care entail post-colonic?
We recommend the first meal after a colonic to be light, hydrating, & nourishing such as a smoothie or soup. Avoid gas forming foods as well as any process or inflammatory meals. The colonic provides a gentle detox of the colon so in-taking a nourishing meal along with minerals/electrolytes is ideal to compliment the cleansing benefits. Ginger or peppermint teas are great post-colonic as well! After the first post-colonic meal it is fine to consume a heavier meal next.
What are the benefits of colonics?
The most common benefits are feeling lighter, less bloated, improved digestion or bowel movements, reduced old waste to avoid toxicity, reduced inflammation, immune system support, & more!
Are colonics safe?
Colonics are safe when performed by a properly trained AND knowledgeable practitioner. Most colonic devices are FDA-Approved medical devices and require a doctors prescription to obtain. The water used for cleansing is highly filtered and UV sanitized. The water pressure during a fill must remain at or below .5psi. The standard cleansing time is 45-minutes unless the practitioner and client discuss a need for additional or less time depending on health history or the results of the cleansing.
Are there contraindications for colonics?
Some conditions are absolute contraindications which will exclude a person from receiving colonics. Some conditions are only contraindicated based on the current state of the condition at the time of the appointment. At Alivia Detox, we will require an Intake Form to be completed & a review of the health history information will take place prior to the start of the session. This allows the client to ask any questions or address concerns with the practioner before starting the service. Feel free to call, text, or email us to discuss contraindications in detail. We are more than happy to discuss this with you!
Are colonics safe or allowed during pregnancy?
At Alivia Detox, we do not perform colonics during pregnancy or within 3-6 months of postpartum. There are some Colon Hydrotherapy providers that will perform colonics during pregnancy but only in the second trimester. Colonics in the first trimester are said to risk a miscarriage and colonics in the third trimester are said to risk inducing labor. It is important to speak to your medical provider and your practitioner for further information.
MASSAGE FAQs:
Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table with modest draping practices especially designed for your comfort.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet. The practitioner will also knock before entering the treatment room to confirm you are ready to begin.

You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.
What parts of my body will be massaged?

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the provided Intake Form be completed. This will allow the practitioner to review your health history prior to beginning your session. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
